I have been busy this weekend sewing my Tilda bunny from my new craft book. I had made a small version of the basic bunny last weekend but wasn't pleased with how it had turned out so thought I'd just start again. The instructions suggest a linen type fabric, something with a bit of an open weave that is easier to work with. I didn't have any linen, short of hacking a pair of summer trousers to bits so called down to our local fabric warehouse but they didn't have any either. Back to square one. I had a rummage through my fabric and found some pink stretchy (?jersey) type fabric which I thought might be okay to use. This is the result, I am quite pleased with it.
I made the bigger bunny which was much easier to work and really enjoyed making it.
Yesterday I ventured out into the garden for a little look around. It's amazing how despite the covering of snow we have had up until recent days, everything still goes on under its blanket and suddenly, when it clears ,the gorgeous little snowdrops, primulas and my favourite miniature iris, Katherine Hodgkin, are there in all their glory. A welcome sign that spring is not too far away. I picked up a hellebore in the supermarket for 50p, my bargain of the week which is going to go in the border at the side of the house. I noticed that the cobaea plants I put in last summer (which never flowered at all so poor was the summer) have all been cut back by the frosts but the one I planted on a trellis at the front of the house, which is south facing, seems to be thriving. I suppose it must be the heat from the wall protecting it to an extent. Hopefully it will survive and flower early. Such a gorgeous flower and it will be a perfect foil for the lavenders, blues and pinks in the front garden.I really havent done much else in the garden, the soil is still cold and fairly soggy.
We went to see Les Miserables this afternoon. Neither of us were familiar with the story but such a lovely, heart rending one, plenty of tears but some funny bits thrown in too. Some of the songs were so familiar. I would love to see it in the West End sometime.
Well, that's the nicer part of my weekend. What have you all been up to?

Hello Anne
ReplyDeleteYour Tilda bunnie looks super cute and I love her dress all covered in hearts...very appropriate. I must say I very much like the Tilda designs too.
Getting lots of feedback about Les Miserables and all is good so am looking forward to seeing it ,hopefully soon.
keep well
Amanda :-)
Thanks Amanda, you definitely ought to go and see les mis, its a treat not to be missed.
DeleteYour bunny is lovely. The heart fabric is really sweet. Isn't it great to see the garden coming back to life. I was interested to read your review of Les Mis as my Aunt was very unkind about it.
ReplyDeleteAli x
Cant imagine why your aunt didnt like it Ali, unless it was the singing. The west end performers would have sung better but it was still wonderful.
DeleteYour Tilda Bunny is absolutely gorgeous, her little dress and pants made with the hearts fabric are so appropriate for this time of year. Would make a beautiful valentine gift.
ReplyDeleteMy garden is in a bit of a state, the rabbits have ransacked it, they have dug holes everywhere and eaten all the bulbs again!!! Roll on the dry weather so we can give it a good fettle,
Karen x
Thank you for your lovely compliment Karen. Sadly I dont think Tony would appreciate my bunny for Valentines!
DeleteI took KP and 9 of her school friends to see Les Miserables yesterday afternoon! A belated Birthday Party - she had her birthday at the beginning of January but the snow and one thing and another meant it was delayed until yesterday. I couldn't believe how well behaved the children were and at least three cried during the showing especially when the medal is placed on the young boy's chest. I cried too! I thought that all the cast were great - Hugh Jackman especially but also liked Sacha Baron Cohen as the landlord. I've seen it in the theatre many, many years ago and it's brilliant. The film is very true to the original.
ReplyDeleteJune
Hi June, I was surprised how much I loved it. You are right Sacha Baron Cohen was great in it!
DeleteLooks like you are busy as a bee on your new sewing machine. I saw Les Miserables about 10 years ago and the music of course, is the best part for me. I have not been to the movie yet but it's on my agenda.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it if you do go and see it Ruth.
DeleteI love your bunny. It's really cute.
ReplyDeleteI've been shopping for paint, then
spent the afternoon fixing skirting boards. Not as enjoyable, but it's a job that needs doing.
Rosezeeta.
Thanks Rosezeeta, we need to get on with some decorating too.
DeleteLove the bunny floral floppy ears...so cute

DeleteThe bunnie is gorgeous Anne. Our garden is just about getting back to normal now so we went to the garden centre today and bought some gorgeous primroses. The weatherman has just forecast more snow though, so might hold back on planting out. Thanks for your comment on my post this evening.

You too Carly X
DeleteI love the bunny, you're so clever. I haven't done a thing in the garden or on the allotment yet this year, everywhere is still just so wet, so I'm waiting for it to dry out a bit. We went to see Les Mis when it first came out, but Eleanor loved it so much that she went to see it again yesterday with one of her friends who has also seen it before. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD, it's on my Christmas list already. I've got the original soundtrack, I think the music's fantastic.
ReplyDeleteHi Jo, I think it will be on my christmas list too!
