Weekend catch up

Thank you to everyone who left comments on my last post. It's nice to know other people share the same thoughts and worries.
This has been a strange sort of weekend. My mum is in hospital with breathing problems again and the weekend has been punctuated by hospital visiting trips and various household chores. I am liasing with my dad and brothers so that we can make sure there is someone at each of the visiting sessions without there being lots of us at any one time. My mum loves to chat and I'm sure though she would love to see us all together it would probably be too exhausting for her.She is awaiting a CTscan and the doctors will then decide on a plan of action.

I did get to use my new food mixer today. I thought it would be nice to take her in a bit of cake so voila...

Here is the end result, a cherry and coconut cake courtesy of Bero. You can't go wrong with a lovely Bero recipe, I'm a big fan.Love my new mixer, its so much quieter than any of my previous handmixers and the flour seems to stay put in the mixing bowl rather than flying all over the worktops.
Also loving my indoor cyclamen plant. It was bought as a housewarming present by my friend Sue when we moved here 3 years ago and despite my neglect (not deliberate, I just forget to water it-and only do so when I notice it flagging a bit) it flowers its little heart out. Most of the year too. It's on the windowsill in our downstairs loo and only gets a bit of sun in the mornings but maybe inadvertantly I have hit on the perfect recipe for its survival.
And I can't forget to mention how gorgeous the daffodils are at the moment. Not in my garden they are still quite small, but I have bought a couple of bunches every week for the last month or so and their perfume fills the downstairs rooms.Absolutely beautiful!

Just to give you a quick update on the pram blanket I am crocheting. It's coming along nicely, I've managed a couple more stripes this weekend and I probably don't have many more to go before I have to decide how to finish it off.

I have really enjoyed this stripey pattern, so easy to do, and I can pick it up and put it down when I want.
I do love sunday evenings. I like to have my shower early, get into my pj's and do my blog post and blog reading. With the return of Call the Midwife too its even better. Thankfully the further snow we were promised hasn't materialized, lets hope it doesn't catch us unawares while we are asleep.Have you all had a good weekend?

I love cyclamen - they seem to be the only plant I can't kill...! Mark is definitely the green fingered person in our household. Jx

  6. I hope your Mum makes a very quick recovery Anne x Love the cake, BeRo recipes are a favourite here too. Your blanket is coming on a treat, I don't envy you having to sew all those end in though.
Daffodils are lovely they really cheer the place up and let us know that spring is on its way.

  8. Sorry to hear that your mum is in hospital. It's so stressful trying to organise visiting, isn't it? I know what you mean about wanting someone to be at each visiting session, but not too many at any one time. Loving the pram blanket, such cheery colours.

  11. Hope they get to the problem for your Mum Anne. It's always a worry when family members are in the hospital, but I'm sure they be able to help her.

I own a kitchen aid myself and it has served me well for many years. I bake my bread with it amongst other things. We just bought one for Rebekah this weekend as I think every new bride should have one! Your cake looks yummy. I'll have to check out Bero recipes. Lovely stripe blanket. A perfect thing to do all curled up in PJ's after a shower watching "call the midwife". We love that show! I am a trained Doula, so love anything concerning childbirth. Can't wait until we get the next series here. Have you read the book? I just bout I for my kobo and am enjoying it very much. Downton Abbey is another favourite at our house, although I didn't like the ending of the Christmas special this year!!
    Have a great week

  15. I hope your Mum is better soon. The cake would have cheered her up, I'm sure. I love daffs too - being Welsh! I haven't had much success with cyclamen - but I bought one this Christmas, the flowers all died but the leaves are still green and I spotted one little flower, still in bud - but there nonetheless this morning. So fingers crossed it will survive!

  19. Hi Anne. Cake looks yummy. Those electric stand mixers are great, aren't they? Hope your mum gets to feeling better. I know how hard it is to have someone you love in the hospital and trying to make sure they don't get lonely. Have to love that your cyclamen has held on so long, you must just have the right touch. Afghan is coming along nicely, so pretty and colorful and thanks for your sweet comments to me. I always love hearing from you..Happy Monday..Judy
