Charity shop finds and Easter bunnies

I have had a couple of lovely CS shop finds this last week. I have already mentionned before that unless I want to read a specific title I only buy my reading books from Charity shops and car boot sales. My supply of new reading matter had been exhausted so we popped in to the Hospice shop in Leicester and came out with these. These days I only find time to read a chapter or so when I go to bed and since I find it helps me sleep I don't choose anything too heavy going or thought provoking. Hence my selection!
Yes, I know the one at the back is not exactly reading material but it does feature New England where we are hoping to visit, well you have to do your research don't you? Anyway, the others had decent write ups on the back so hence I plumped for them. Even if you can't get into them, at roughly £1 each, you can always recycle them back to another charity shop.
When we got home I decided to visit my favourite CS shop here. I had some things to drop off anyway and there's no harm in browsing is there? Downstairs they have what they call their 'vintage section', my favourite section where I have had some lovely things and I couldn't believe my luck when I found this....
It's a gorgeous vintage dolls cot. In lovely condition and it even came complete with bedding....
Isn't the little duck embroidery cute? Unfortunately the bottom sheet was bri nylon (horrible stuff wasn't it? Oops sorry hope I haven't offended anyone there but I remember having bri nylon sheets before I got married in the 1970's when I was living at home and how they used to make you sweat and if you got a nail caught in them how they used to 'click' Yuk!...). I have given both of them a good wash and they have come up lovely and clean but the 'mattress' was actually a proper baby pillow and was, shall we say, rather well used (I won't go into too manydetails but suffice to say it must have belonged to a very sicky baby) so it had to go. The pillowcase contained what must have been the proper dolly cot mattress and was plastic covered so it has cleaned up very nicely. It does mean of course that I now have another job to do sometime making some sheets and covers for it.Sadly only one of my granddaughters will probably get to play with it now and only when she is older at that. Little O spotted it in the spare room yesterday and tried to climb into it with her dolly.
I have noticed that some of you have been prettifying your homes for Easter. I bought some little Bunny decorations in a little gift shop in Rothley last week and here they are hung in my kitchen window off some twigs from one of our bushes in the garden. I'm sure Tony thinks I am going round the bend, which I probably am but I think the littlies will love them.

And last but not least I have finished off the bunny I started weeks ago. It was a 'prototype' really and I made the small version prior to the big bunny I wrote about earlier in the year.I worked out my own knitted jumper pattern and crocheted a floppy hat to match the little skirt.
Well, that's all for now folks!! There is something big, yellow and shiny in the sky over here so I am going to pop out and do a bit of gardening! How have you spent your saturday?

  4. Nylon sheets...lightening during the night! Enough said! We had nylon shirts for school....
Can I say that it is always very cheery to see your garden photo on your header - especially on squally days like today
    Best wishes

  5. I bought my mum a set of ten Katie Fforde books for Mother's Day. I got them from The Book People for just £7.99, and free delivery. I don't think you can beat that price, even in the charity shops. The little dolls cot is so lovely, I'm sure it will get plenty of use when little 'O' is older. Love the bunny, so cute.

  6. Bri-nylon sheets - that brought back memories of a stay in a seaside guesthouse many years ago. Yellow rbi-nylon sheets with unknown hairs stuck to them!!!!! Ugh!
    Love from Mum

  9. I love the vintage cot and your bunny. It has been raining hard here all day - it was sunshine midweek - why does it always seem to rain on the weekend.

  10. The cot is lovely and your rabbit is so cute! I think 'pottering' best describes how I've spent my day - I made a curry, listed some stuff on ebay, did a bit of shopping for my Mum and spent a couple of hours with her.

  11. Ooh yes I remember nylon sheets too well, they were horrible!
I only buy books at charity shops too and have a pile by my bed, but like you I can only manage a chapter or less before I'm dropping off.
I didn't stop yesterday as my (grown-up) two children were away so it was a great opportunity to give the house a good clean, plus I made a curry and a cake. I finally sat down around 8pm so am planning to do far less today-might even get to do some of my patchwork quilt later.

  12. I love the charity shops too Anne, but all the ones here in the city have been stripped of anything vintage these days. They sell that off to other companies or on eBay. I think it's such a shame they had to change. They now only sell things you can buy in Primark, very often for the same price. I blame Mary Portas!

  13. The doll's bed is a delight!
Yes, I always wash everything I get at second hand shops.....

    Happy Easter

I live in an apartment building (70 units) and we have a book-swap in the basement laundry room.
Such a good way to find things to read --and makes discarding ones easier when you think they might get a new home!

  14. Hi Anne, what cute treasures and you read the kind of books that I like. I just think they are entertaining, so let me know if one is too good to pass up. Thanks for your sweet comments on my latest post. What a shame that such a beautiful life was taken away for that reason..Happy Weekend..Judy

  17. It's always great finding unexpected bargains at charity shops and car boots- I'm eagerly awaiting the car boot season to start as I'm moving house and no doubt will need a few bits for it- none expensive items and its' also fun doing them up!
